Issued to mark Prince William's 21st birthday in June 2003, this coin appeared at a moment of considerable press scrutiny around the heir — his coming-of-age coincided with intensified public debate about the future of the monarchy following the Queen Mother's death the previous year and ongoing fallout from various royal controversies of the 1990s.
