| Additional information |
Issued to mark Prince William's 21st birthday in June 2003, this coin appeared at a moment of considerable press scrutiny around the heir — his coming-of-age coincided with intensified public debate about the future of the monarchy following the Queen Mother's death the previous year and ongoing fallout from various royal controversies of the 1990s. Jersey, as a Crown Dependency, issues commemoratives under its own authority but outside the UK's Royal Mint remit, giving the States of Jersey latitude to produce pieces the mainland would not necessarily sanction.
KM#121 shares its specification with the standard Crown-sized commemorative format Jersey had been issuing since the 1970s.
