| Additional information |
Guernsey has issued commemorative crown-sized pieces through the London-based pobjoy Mint and later Jubilee Mint for decades, but the Platinum Jubilee of 2022 marked an unusual moment — Elizabeth II became the first British monarch to reach 70 years on the throne, a milestone no predecessor had approached. She died that September, making every piece struck for this jubilee year simultaneously a celebration and an inadvertent memorial.
The selective gilding on this issue targets specific design elements rather than blanketing the surface, a technique that requires a secondary masking and electroplating process after the proof strike itself.
