The Platinum Jubilee marked Elizabeth II's 70th year on the throne — the longest reign in British history and the first time any British monarch reached that milestone. This piedfort, double the standard flan thickness, is a format the Royal Mint has reserved for commemorative issues since reviving the practice in 1982. Elizabeth II died on 8 September 2022, roughly four months after the jubilee celebrations concluded, making this one of the final commemorative series issued in her name during her lifetime.
