Alderney's commemorative program has long operated as a licensing arrangement rather than a genuine monetary authority — these pieces are legal tender in name only, issued under Crown Dependency status but produced and marketed entirely by the Pobjoy Mint and similar private contractors. The Platinum Jubilee marked 70 years on the throne, a milestone no other British monarch had reached.
Elizabeth II acceded on 6 February 1952, though the coronation itself did not occur until June 1953 — a distinction that occasionally trips up the jubilee arithmetic.
