Obverse description The fifth and final definitive effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, as modelled by Jody Clark, dominates the obverse field: a right-facing crowned and draped bust of the Queen wearing the George IV State Diadem and a drop earring. The circumferential legend reads ELIZABETH II · D · G · REG · FID · DEF · 5 POUNDS, interrupted at the base by the engraver's initials J.C. The portrait is rendered with exceptional high-relief detail befitting the proof finish, with deeply mirrored fields contrasting against the frosted devices.

Reverse description The reverse, designed by John Bergdahl, presents the Royal Arms shield at centre, quartered with the three passant guardant lions of England (first and fourth quarters), the rampant lion of Scotland (second quarter), and the harp of Ireland (third quarter), all encircled by the Garter bearing the motto HONI · SOIT · QUI · MAL · Y · PENSE. The shield is surmounted by the St Edward's Crown and flanked by elaborate mantling with rope-and-tassel decoration. The commemorative dates 1952 and 2022, separated by a decorative fleur-de-lis motif, appear along the lower exergue to mark the Platinum Jubilee of the Queen's accession, with the engraver's initials JB visible to the lower right.
