Tristan da Cunha holds the distinction of being the most remote permanently inhabited island on Earth — over 2,400 kilometres from the nearest landmass — and its commemorative coinage program is administered entirely through the British government, as the island's 250-odd residents have no mint and no meaningful local currency economy.
