| Reverse description | The reverse presents a faithful high-relief reproduction of the world's first adhesive postage stamp, the Penny Black of 1840, occupying the full coin field. At the centre is a left-facing diademed bust of Queen Victoria after the portrait by William Wyon R.A., whose engraver's signature WYON R.A. appears at the truncation. The stamp design features ornate lattice-work side borders, the legend POSTAGE above, and ONE PENNY. below, with the plate letters A and A appearing in the lower left and right corners respectively. Small rosette ornaments are positioned in the upper corners of the stamp frame, faithfully recreating the iconic philatelic design in sterling silver. |
