Additional information

Cromwell's appearance on a British Crown-format commemorative is genuinely peculiar — he abolished the monarchy, executed Charles I in 1649, and ruled as Lord Protector until his death in 1658. Guernsey's willingness to issue this piece reflects the island's semi-detached constitutional position more than any rehabilitative consensus on the mainland.

The 2007 date places it in a wave of British commemorative silver largely produced by the Pobjoy Mint under contract, with Guernsey acting as issuing authority for coins that rarely saw the island itself.
