Jersey issued this piece as part of a wave of D-Day commemoratives timed to the 65th anniversary in 2009 — notable given that Jersey itself was never liberated on June 6th, 1944. The island remained under German occupation until May 9th, 1945, nearly a full year after the Normandy landings it commemorates. That occupation was the only instance of British soil held by German forces during the war.
