Beschrijving voorzijde Right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, wearing the George IV State Diadem and a pearl necklace, with a draped bust in a refined, mature portrait style as designed by Raphael David Maklouf. The legend ELIZABETH II arcs along the left periphery, with GIBRALTAR continuing along the upper right, and the date 2005 descending along the right field. The engraver's initials RDM appear discreetly below the truncation of the bust. The design is set within a beaded border, and the proof finish imparts a deeply mirrored field contrasting with frosted relief.

Aanvullende informatie

Issued to mark the bicentenary of Trafalgar, this coin reflects Gibraltar's particular stake in the battle — the fleet anchored in the Bay of Gibraltar both before the engagement and after, with the damaged ships carrying Nelson's body returning to the Rock before the long voyage home to England. The victory effectively ended any remaining French naval threat to Gibraltar, a fortress that had already withstood the Great Siege of 1779–1783.
