Issued to mark the turn of the millennium, this is one of dozens of nearly identical five-pound crown-sized pieces struck in sterling silver by Commonwealth territories during 1999–2000, most sharing the same Raphael Maklouf or Ian Rank-Broadley obverse and generic reverse commissions. Jersey's issue was produced by the Royal Mint under contract, as the Bailiwick has no minting infrastructure of its own. The KM#109 attribution places it firmly in the commemorative series Jersey accelerated through the 1990s to meet collector demand rather than any circulating need.
