Magna Carta commemoration coins flooded the market in 2015 — the 800th anniversary attracted issues from virtually every Crown dependency and Commonwealth mint simultaneously. Guernsey's entry was produced by the Royal Mint on contract, as the island has no striking facility of its own. The historical claim here is modest: Guernsey's constitutional relationship to the English Crown predates Magna Carta itself, rooted in the 1204 loss of Normandy, when the islands chose allegiance to the English king rather than the French.
