The Liberation of Paris in August 1944 unfolded faster than Allied planners had intended — Eisenhower had originally hoped to bypass the city entirely, calculating that feeding its population would drain supply lines needed for the drive east. De Gaulle forced the issue, insisting that Free French forces under Leclerc's 2nd Armored Division enter first, a political calculation as much as a military one. The Germans surrendered on August 25th.
Gibraltar's commemorative output in this period was prolific to the point of exhaustion, with dozens of allied-theme silver issues sharing the same 28.28g crown-sized specification across multiple issuers simultaneously.
