| 背面描述 | Left-facing bust of the Venetian-born explorer John Cabot, bearded and wearing a brimmed Renaissance-era hat adorned with a feather, occupying the left portion of the field. To the right, in the mirror-polished background, a period three-masted caravel is depicted sailing on stylized waves, evoking Cabot's 1497 voyage to North America aboard the Matthew. The explorer's name and approximate life dates JOHN CABOT c. 1450 - 1498 are inscribed in the upper right field, with the denomination FIVE POUNDS rendered in two lines at the lower right. |

Issued to mark the 500th anniversary of John Cabot's 1497 voyage to North America, though the exact landfall location — Newfoundland, Cape Breton, or somewhere along the Labrador coast — remains contested among historians. Cabot sailed under letters patent from Henry VII, who promised him a share of the profits from any new territories; the king ultimately paid him £10.
Jersey's connection is largely honorific. Cabot was Genoese by birth, Bristol-based by commission.
