Beschrijving keerzijde A boldly rendered figure of a Royal Navy officer in full uniform strides forward in the foreground, brandishing a pistol in one hand, set against the deck of HMS Victory during the Battle of Trafalgar. In the background, a dramatic sword fight between sailors is depicted in high relief, with rigging, netting, and the chaos of naval combat rendered in fine detail. The scene commemorates the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar, fought on 21 October 1805. The curved legend '1805 TRAFALGAR 2005' appears along the upper rim, while 'FIVE POUNDS' is inscribed in bold letters along the lower rim. The composition is enclosed within a fine beaded border.

Aanvullende informatie

Issued to mark the bicentennial of Trafalgar, this coin is one of several Gibraltar pieces released in 2005 tied to the battle — a fractured commemorative program that produced enough variants to frustrate even dedicated collectors. HMS Victory's role on 21 October 1805 was central from the opening minutes; she absorbed withering fire for nearly forty minutes before her guns could be brought to bear, losing fifty-seven men killed and a hundred and two wounded by the battle's end.
