| Obverse lettering | ELIZABETH II BAILIWICK OF GUERNSEY IRB 2009 |
| Reverse description | The reverse depicts a finely detailed broadside view of HMS Endeavour, Captain James Cook's famous bark, under full sail on a stylised sea with tropical coastlines visible on either horizon. A British ensign flies from the stern, and the rigging, masts, and hull planking are rendered with exceptional engraving precision by Michael Guilfoyle. In the lower portion of the field, a twisted rope border frames a centrally placed mariner's compass rose. The denomination FIVE POUNDS arcs along the upper right field, while the ship's name ENDEAVOUR appears in bold letters along the lower exergue. |
