Additional information

The Hawker Hunter F6 was the definitive British swept-wing fighter of the 1950s, and the variant most closely associated with Gibraltar entered service during a period when the RAF maintained a visible presence at the Rock's North Front airfield. The F6 variant, powered by the Rolls-Royce Avon 203, corrected the deep stall and surge problems that had plagued earlier marks — problems that killed several pilots before the cause was properly understood.

Gibraltar's aviation commemorative series of this period drew heavily on RAF types with direct territorial connection. North Front, now Gibraltar International Airport, shares its runway with the territory's main road — a crossing arrangement unique among commercial airports in Europe.
