Issued in the year of Prince Philip's death at 99, this piece was struck before his passing was announced — Guernsey, like several Crown Dependencies, had commemorative programs in preparation for both his centenary and his death. The gold plating applied selectively to portions of the design was a commercial decision driven by the collectibles market of the 2010s and 2020s, not a monetary or ceremonial one. Philip himself was notably indifferent to posthumous commemoration.
