| Descripción del reverso | The quartered royal arms shield, adapted from William Dyce's celebrated Gothic Crown reverse design of 1847, occupies the centre of the coin. The shield is divided into four quarters: the first and fourth quarters display the three passant guardant lions of England; the second quarter bears the rampant lion of Scotland; the third quarter displays the harp of Ireland; and a central escutcheon bears the arms of Saxony. The shield is surmounted by the royal crown and flanked by ornate Gothic cross-hatched diaper work. The surrounding legend in Gothic blackletter reads TUEATUR UNITA DEUS and HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE, with ANNO DOM MDCCCXLVII along the lower arc. |
