Jersey issued this piedfort to mark Elizabeth II's Golden Jubilee — fifty years on the throne, a milestone reached by only one previous British monarch, Victoria in 1887. The double-thickness format was a deliberate premium product; Jersey had been producing piedfort issues since the 1980s as collector vehicles, and the Jubilee occasion gave the format obvious commercial justification. Mintages for Jersey pieforts of this period were typically in the low hundreds.
