| Beschrijving keerzijde | A Eurofighter Typhoon jet aircraft is depicted in dynamic three-quarter view, flying diagonally across a stylised outline map of Europe rendered with hatched shading in the field. The word EUROFIGHTER appears as a label adjacent to the aircraft. A ring of twelve stars encircles the map, referencing the European Union. The curved legend 80th ANNIVERSARY OF THE RAF arcs around the upper portion of the field, while the denomination 5 POUNDS is inscribed along the lower field. |

Gibraltar issued a wave of large-denomination commemoratives throughout the 1990s targeting the collector market directly, and this piece belongs firmly to that program. The Eurofighter Typhoon — still designated EF2000 at the time of issue — had not yet entered service with any air force; its first operational deployment came with the Royal Air Force in 2003. Virenium, a proprietary copper-based alloy developed by the Pobjoy Mint, was the house metal of choice for Gibraltar's collector series during this decade.
