附加信息

Issued forty years after England's 1966 World Cup victory, this Gibraltar commemorative sits in a crowded field of British-market football releases from the mid-2000s — Gibraltar was a prolific producer of such pieces, leveraging its issuing authority to supply collector demand that the Royal Mint rarely chose to meet directly. The selective colour application, applied after striking, was a widely adopted technique among commemorative producers of this period rather than anything unique to this piece.

The 1966 quarter-final against Argentina at Wembley was abandoned by FIFA referee Rudolf Kreitlein after he sent off Antonio Rattín, who refused to leave the pitch for nearly ten minutes.
