Reverse description Central design depicting two standing male figures raising their right arms in salute before a crowd: Winston Churchill at left giving his iconic two-fingered Victory sign, and King George VI at right in military uniform with his right arm raised. Between and below the two figures is a commemorative roundel inscribed COMMEMORATION with the dates 1945 and 2005 flanking a stylised VE emblem with radiating lines. The legend END OF WORLD WAR II 60TH ANNIVERSARY arcs around the upper field, and FIVE POUNDS is inscribed along the lower exergue.

Additional information

Guernsey occupies a peculiar position in the WWII commemorative space: it was actually occupied by German forces from June 1940 until May 1945, making it one of the very few British territories to fall under Nazi administration. The liberation on 9 May 1945 — a day still celebrated on the island as Liberation Day — gives this issue a local specificity that most generic Allied victory commemoratives lack entirely.
