Reverse description The central device depicts the clock tower of the Palace of Westminster (Big Ben) rising prominently in the field, with the Gothic facade of the Houses of Parliament visible to the right. Radiating searchlight beams fan outward from behind the tower, evoking the VE Day celebrations of 1945. In the lower centre, an oval commemorative shield bears the inscription COMMEMORATION with the dates 1945 and 2005 flanking the monogram WWII. The curved legend END OF WORLD WAR II 60TH ANNIVERSARY arcs around the upper periphery, while FIVE POUNDS is inscribed along the lower border.

Additional information

Issued to mark the 60th anniversary of the liberation of the Channel Islands, which were the only British territories occupied by Nazi Germany during the war. Jersey fell in July 1940 and remained under German control until May 9, 1945 — one day after VE Day — making the island's liberation date distinct from the mainland commemoration.
