Aanvullende informatie

Alderney's position in this commemorative is not incidental. The island was occupied by German forces from July 1940 until liberation in May 1945 — the only British territory to experience full Nazi occupation during the war. Most of the civilian population had been evacuated beforehand, and a significant portion of those who remained, along with thousands of forced laborers brought to build fortifications, did not survive.

The KM#53b designation distinguishes this gold proof from the silver and base-metal variants struck in the same series.
