Beschrijving keerzijde Central bust portrait of King Edward II facing forward, flanked by a heraldic lily to the left and a shield to the right, rendered in a historicist style evoking medieval regalia. The king's name and regnal dates EDWARD II r. 1307-1327 are inscribed as a legend above the composition, while the denomination FIVE POUNDS appears in the lower field. The overall design conveys the solemnity and heraldic character appropriate to a medieval monarch of England.

Aanvullende informatie

Alderney, a Crown dependency outside the United Kingdom proper, issues commemorative coinage under royal warrant but outside the British Royal Mint's direct remit — giving it unusual latitude to produce themed pieces that wouldn't appear in standard UK series. Edward II's reign ended at Berkeley Castle in 1327 under circumstances that remain genuinely disputed: whether murdered on orders from his queen Isabella and her lover Mortimer, or whether he escaped and died later in Italy, historians have never fully settled.
