Harry Eccleston designed and engraved the entire Series D output for the Bank of England — an unusual degree of single-authorship for a note produced at industrial scale. The signature and thread variants documented under P#378 reflect successive technical upgrades across the run's two decades: the move from thin to wide security thread occurred mid-series, and the "Litho" designation on Page-signed notes marks a shift in back-printing technique that collectors use to sequence the issues more precisely than the broad date range suggests.
The J. B. Page without "L" prefix is the earlier and scarcer printing.
