背面描述 A finely detailed scene set within the cab of a steam locomotive, depicting two railway workers at their stations: a driver standing to the right, wearing a peaked cap and manipulating overhead controls with both hands raised, while a fireman in the foreground shovels coal into the open firebox below. The locomotive's instrument panel fills the background with an array of gauges, valves, pipes, and levers rendered in high relief, evoking the industrial grandeur of the steam age. The vertical inscription FIVE POUNDS appears along the left margin of the field in incuse lettering.

附加信息

Issued as part of Jersey's ongoing commemorative program marking the 60th anniversary of the D-Day landings, this piece honors the volunteer railway workers — drivers and firemen — whose wartime contributions are rarely foregrounded in Liberation narratives. Jersey's railway system, operated under German occupation from 1940, was pressed into service hauling materials for the fortifications of the Atlantic Wall, a fact the island's postwar commemoration has handled with characteristic restraint.
