Issued to mark the 60th anniversary of the marriage of Elizabeth II and Prince Philip in November 1947, this is one of dozens of commemorative crown-sized pieces Jersey produced during the reign — the island's autonomy from the UK Parliament allowing it to issue coinage independently of Royal Mint scheduling. The diamond wedding anniversary was widely commemorated across British territories, making Jersey's contribution unremarkable in the broader numismatic picture.
Copper-nickel crowns of this type were struck in large numbers for the collector market and saw virtually no commercial circulation.
