Beschrijving keerzijde A youthful laureate effigy of Queen Elizabeth II faces right, closely modelled on the first definitive portrait used on British coinage from 1953, evoking the beginning of her reign sixty years prior. The legend DIR IGE DEVS GRESSVS MEOS, meaning 'May God direct my steps', appears in the field before the portrait, while the date 2012 is placed behind. The engraver's initials IRB are present within the design. The juxtaposition of the young portrait on the reverse with the mature ceremonial portrait on the obverse underscores the Diamond Jubilee theme of six decades of reign.

Aanvullende informatie

Issued to mark sixty years of Elizabeth II's reign, this was one of several commemorative crowns produced for the Diamond Jubilee year alongside gold and silver proof versions. The copper-nickel circulation strike was produced in substantial numbers and widely distributed through face-value channels, meaning uncirculated examples are easy to source — there is nothing scarce here.
