Additional information

James "Ginger" Lacey was the highest-scoring RAF fighter pilot of the Battle of Britain, credited with 18 confirmed kills — more than any other British pilot in that campaign. He was also the man who shot down the Heinkel He 111 that bombed Buckingham Palace in September 1940. Jersey, occupied by Germany for the entire duration of the war, could not have issued anything in his honour at the time; this coin arrives seventy years later.
