| 正面描述 | Right-facing crowned effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, engraved by Raphael David Maklouf, depicted wearing the George IV State Diadem and a pearl necklace, with fine detail in the hair and facial features. The legend ELIZABETH II arcs along the left rim and GIBRALTAR along the right rim, with the date 2005 positioned at the lower right. The engraver's initials RDM appear incuse in the lower field near the truncation. The portrait is set against a polished proof field, imparting a cameo-like contrast to the raised design. |

The Dambusters Raid of May 1943 — Operation Chastise — saw 617 Squadron breach the Möhne and Eder dams using Barnes Wallis's bouncing bomb, flooding the Ruhr valley and killing an estimated 1,600 people, including over 1,000 Soviet forced laborers. Gibraltar has been a prolific issuer of gold commemoratives since the 1990s, producing themed proof sets with little connection to the territory itself beyond legal tender status. The RAF connection to Gibraltar is genuine — the Rock's airfield played a critical role in wartime operations — though 617 Squadron's missions were run entirely from Lincolnshire.
