Issued to mark the sixth anniversary of Concorde's retirement from service in 2003, this coin arrived when public nostalgia for the aircraft was running high but commercial pressure to revive it had largely faded. British Airways and Air France had both concluded that post-crash insurance costs and aging airframe maintenance made any return unviable. Guernsey, with no direct operational connection to the aircraft, issued this as a straightforward commemorative — one of dozens of Concorde-themed numismatic pieces produced by various Crown Dependencies throughout the 2000s.
