The Ceremony of the Keys is the nightly locking ritual at the Tower of London, performed without interruption for over 700 years — including during the Blitz, when a near-miss bomb blast knocked sentries off their feet mid-ceremony. The Chief Yeoman Warder has conducted it every night at precisely 21:53 since at least the reign of Edward I, making it one of the longest unbroken military ceremonies in existence.
The Royal Mint's 2019 commemorative program drew heavily on British ceremonial traditions. This piece was struck to the standard 39.94g five-pound crown specification in 22-carat gold.
