| 背面描述 | Central depiction of Zeus enthroned, rendered in a classical style derived from the ancient Statue of Zeus at Olympia, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Flames rise beneath his throne, and he holds a sceptre in his left hand. Flanking the central figure on both sides are fourteen dynamic athletes engaged in various Olympic disciplines, arranged in a frieze-like composition extending to the coin's border. The word CENTENNIAL arcs vertically along the left field and OLYMPICS along the right, with the denomination 5 POUNDS inscribed in the lower exergue. The mintmark appears in the lower left area of the design. |

Gibraltar's Olympic centennial issues were produced under a commercial licensing arrangement that generated dozens of distinct coin types across multiple compositions in 1996 — Virenium, a copper-nickel-zinc alloy proprietary to the Pobjoy Mint, was the base-metal workhorse of the series. Pobjoy struck these under their long-running agreement with the Gibraltar government, which had little independent minting infrastructure of its own.
The centennial year produced collector fatigue almost immediately, with so many issuing authorities flooding the market that secondary values for most pieces dropped within months of release.
