Guernsey's commemorative output has long leaned on British military anniversaries, and this centenary issue arrives at the end of a four-year cycle of WWI remembrance that saturated the market with similar pieces from every corner of the Commonwealth. The island itself was occupied by German forces from 1940 to 1945 — not 1914 — so its connection to the First World War is civic rather than experiential.
KM#342a designates the silver variant within what was almost certainly a multi-composition release, the base-metal version likely sharing identical dies.
