Alderney's commemorative program has long served Crown Dependencies' appetite for themed five-pound issues, and the Trafalgar bicentennial in 2005 generated a flood of competing pieces from multiple British issuers. This copper-nickel circulation-quality version was struck alongside a silver proof, the latter carrying the real collector premium. Nelson died at approximately 4:30 pm on 21 October 1805, some three hours after being shot by a French musketeer aboard Victory — the battle itself was already won by the time he expired.
