Guernsey occupied by German forces from June 1940 until May 1945, making it one of the only British territories to endure the full duration of Nazi occupation. The island's connection to the Battle of Britain is therefore less triumphant than complicated — its population watched RAF aircraft from the very ground the Luftwaffe controlled. The Bristol Blenheim, honored here, was already being phased out of front-line fighter duties by mid-1940, its speed insufficient against the Bf 109.
This is one of several issues in a multi-coin Battle of Britain series released by Guernsey in 2010, with KM#247 specifically assigned to the Blenheim variant.
