Beschrijving voorzijde Right-facing effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, diademed and wearing a drop earring, after the portrait by Ian Rank-Broadley, whose initials 'IRB' appear beneath the truncation. The coin is struck in the distinctive poppy silhouette shape, with the legend 'BAILIWICK OF GUERNSEY' arching along the upper rim and 'ELIZABETH II 2011' inscribed along the lower rim. The portrait is rendered in high relief against a mirror-polished proof field, with fine detail in the hair and diadem characteristic of the fourth definitive effigy.

Aanvullende informatie

The Royal British Legion was founded in 1921, amalgamating four separate ex-servicemen's organizations in the aftermath of the First World War. Its poppy appeal — launched that same founding year — drew directly from John McCrae's 1915 poem written near Ypres, which gave this coin its title. The Legion had, by 2011, distributed over 35 million poppies annually.

Guernsey's commemorative crown program is a commercial operation; these gold-plated pieces are sold directly to collectors and have never circulated. The KM# 180 assignment places it squarely within a prolific run of similar issues from the island in this period.
