Gibraltar's commemorative crown-sized issues of this period were struck under contract by the Pobjoy Mint, which produced the bulk of Gibraltar's collector coinage throughout the 1990s and 2000s. The "80 Glorious Years" series marked Elizabeth II's eightieth birthday in April 2006, with various Commonwealth and British Overseas Territories issuing coordinated commemoratives across the same window.
Gibraltar's constitutional relationship with the Crown made such issues politically straightforward — unlike some dependent territories where commemorative coinage has provoked sovereignty debates.
