Alderney has long operated as a vehicle for British commemorative coinage with no pretense otherwise — the island's currency authority licenses its name to issues that will never see the inside of a local till. This 2007 piece marks the Queen and Prince Philip's honeymoon departure from Broadlands, the Hampshire estate of the Mountbatten family, in November 1947.
Broadlands was chosen for its Mountbatten connection; Philip's uncle Louis, 1st Earl Mountbatten, effectively orchestrated much of the couple's early courtship logistics.
