Issued to mark the 300th anniversary of Queen Anne's death in 1714, this crown-sized piece falls within the Royal Mint's ongoing series commemorating British monarchs absent from circulating coinage. Anne's reign saw the 1707 Acts of Union uniting England and Scotland into Great Britain — arguably the most consequential constitutional event of her 12-year rule, and the reason her titles on contemporary coinage shifted mid-reign. She died without a surviving heir despite 17 pregnancies, triggering the Hanoverian succession under the Act of Settlement.
