Reverse description The reverse, designed by David Cornell, presents a finely engraved scene commemorating Florence Nightingale (1820–1910). To the left stands a full-length figure of Nightingale in Victorian nursing dress, holding her iconic oil lamp before her as she attends to a wounded soldier reclining in a bed at right. Behind the central figures, a large radiant sunburst motif—rendered in contrasting relief—fills the upper field, evoking Nightingale's role as the 'Lady with the Lamp.' The legend FLORENCE NIGHTINGALE arcs along the upper periphery, flanked by the dates 1820–1910 at the left, while FIVE POUNDS is inscribed along the lower right border.
