The Isle of Man has long operated as a prolific commemorative issuer, leveraging its status as a Crown dependency with its own coinage rights to produce royal occasion pieces well outside the Royal Mint's program. This 2021 issue marks the tenth anniversary of the April 29, 2011 Westminster Abbey wedding — a ceremony watched by an estimated 26 million viewers in the UK alone and broadcast to roughly 180 countries.
The Pobjoy Mint, which held the Isle of Man contract for decades before Downies took over striking arrangements, produced numerous William and Catherine pieces beginning with the original 2011 wedding issue.
