Issued to mark the Egyptian Trade Union Federation, which was established in 1957 under Nasser as a state-controlled labor structure designed to consolidate worker organizations under a single government-aligned body. Independent union activity in Egypt was effectively abolished in the same process. The coin belongs to a series of Egyptian commemoratives from the 1990s produced in .720 silver — a fineness more associated with circulation coinage than collector issues, and notably lower than the .925 standard used for most contemporary commemorative programs worldwide.
