Delta International Bank was established in 1978 as part of Egypt's infitah — the open-door economic liberalization policy pursued under Sadat — and operated as a joint-venture institution drawing foreign capital into the Egyptian banking sector. This commemorative was issued during a period when the Egyptian pound was under considerable pressure, having been floated in January 2003 after years of managed exchange rates that had badly depleted central bank reserves.
