The design, engraved by David Young, is rendered in high relief with selective gold gilding applied to the surrounding legend and to a central oval cartouche bearing the numeral 150, commemorating the 150th anniversary of Churchill's birth. Small gilt lion devices flank the lower legend FIVE POUNDS. The arc legend SIR WINSTON CHURCHILL runs along the upper border, with the birth and death years 1874 and 1965 appearing on either side of the design. |

Churchill's connection to Guernsey is not incidental. The island spent five years under German occupation from 1940, and Churchill's wartime decisions — including the controversial choice not to defend the Channel Islands militarily — shaped the lives of every resident who remained. The liberation on 9 May 1945 is still celebrated there as a public holiday.
Guernsey has issued Churchill commemoratives across multiple reigns. This 2024 piece is among dozens of selectively gilded silver issues flooding the commemorative market under Charles III's portrait.
