Alderney, a Crown dependency outside the UK proper, has issued commemorative five-pound pieces under its own authority since the 1990s — a quirk of its constitutional status that allows it to produce legal tender without being part of the Royal Mint's remit. Churchill's connection to the island is oblique at best; the 2024 issue appears timed to the 60th anniversary of his state funeral in January 1965, the largest such ceremony Britain had mounted since the Duke of Wellington's in 1852.
Silver-plated copper strikes of this type are collector-market products, not circulating coinage. The .999 silver layer is cosmetic.
