The Unicorn of Scotland enters the Royal Mint's King's Beasts canon as one of ten heraldic supporters drawn from the combined arms of the United Kingdom, a programme that ran through the final years of Elizabeth II's reign and now continues under Charles III. Scotland's unicorn has appeared chained in heraldry since at least the 15th century — the restraint traditionally explained as a precaution against the animal's legendary ferocity, not mere decoration. This Isle of Man issue rides that programme under a new monarch, with the IOM Treasury's long-standing arrangement as a vehicle for licensed commemorative silver.
