| 背面描述 | The reverse depicts the Archangel Michael in full martial figure, standing triumphant over a defeated dragon, in a composition closely inspired by Benedetto Pistrucci's celebrated Angel design. The archangel, clad in classical armour with a short tunic and greaves, is shown with large outstretched wings and a radiate nimbus about his head; he raises a sword aloft in his right hand while thrusting a long spear downward with his left toward the vanquished dragon coiled beneath his feet. The scene is rendered in deeply sculpted high relief with meticulous feather and scale detailing. The Latin legend PER CRUCEM TUAM · SALVA NOS CHRISTE REDEMPTOR — meaning 'By Thy Cross, save us, O Christ our Redeemer' — curves along the left and upper right periphery, separated by a beaded inner border. The engraver's initial SD appears at lower right in the field. |

The Angel — one of English coinage's oldest and most storied gold denominations, first struck under Edward IV in 1465 — has been periodically revived as a commemorative vehicle by the Royal Mint for decades. This copper-nickel 2026 issue continues that modern tradition, which bears no direct lineage to the hammered gold originals beyond the name and iconographic reference.
